WHY THIS BOOK

WHEN A AND B ARE BOTH WRONG

"When every option forces you to pay a price - cost versus service, inventory versus stockout, speed versus quality - the problem is often not courage. It is the absence of a third way."

The Third Side is a solution that breaks the false dilemma by changing perspective and simplifying the system. The method draws on core Lean principles such as value, flow, pull, built-in quality, standardization, and fast PDCA.

WHAT YOU WILL FIND INSIDE:

  • The 3F Method applied in the gemba, in operating meetings, or inside an A3 discussion
  • Practical examples on flow, inventory, WIP, defects, lead time, and OTIF
  • Common traps to avoid, including over-control, unnecessary exceptions, and digitizing chaos

Want a concrete test in three minutes?

Download the 3F Checklist and use it on a real dilemma. When completed well, the better decision often becomes obvious.

THE 3F METHOD

A simple, repeatable sequence for surfacing a true third way.

1) FACTS

Frame the dilemma without opinions: define the problem in flow terms, treat A and B as experiments, choose up to three measures, identify the constraint, and set the scope.

2) LEAN FILTER

Shift perspective using one lens at a time: value, flow, pull, jidoka, standard work, or PDCA. Do not stack lenses at random.

3) FORM

Simplify before adding. Remove steps, reduce visible variation, create a signal, and make abnormalities impossible to ignore.

Decision gate

A real Third Side reduces waste and complexity, improves flow, can be explained in two sentences, and has a test within 7-14 days.
